Talkeetna had an election about fifteen years ago where Stubbs the cat beat both canidates by write in vote. Since then, everyone's decided he's way less trouble then most politicians, so he's been re-elected every time.

One got sand into the lens and died, which is probabaly to be expected for a month of using it on a windy archaeology dig. The other just isn't focusing, which I'm hoping is fixable.

The mosquitos were amazingly bad. On days when the wind died we had to wear face netting, but full body netting might have been a better bet.

I love Alaska. I could wish it wasn't quite so far away from everyone I know, but I suppose if it was more accessible it wouldn't be the same.

It was berry season in Denali when I went. I forgot bear berries - which were tasty - and soapberries, which weren't.

Wow - sounds like a wonderful adventure! And I love that you were keeping stats on everything, including mosquito bites (though seriously - that number sounds unbearable! I'm a baby and can hardly handle 5 in a weekend!)

That was just one count of my arms and lower legs - I gave up after that. They were unbearable, without the face net I honestly couldn't breathe some days.

I didn't get to meet Mayor Stubbs, but I saw his favorite bar. There's only a few businesses in town, so he wanders in wherever he likes and is usually provided with a cushion and some milk.

See, there's a cinema here which has a cat who's pretty famous and he gets pampered when he wanders. But he's not Mayor!

Yet.
